His research focuses on political representation, party competition, and democracy, with a particular emphasis on EU politics and the quality of representation. His work has been published in leading journals, including <em>European Journal of Political Research<\/em>, <em>The Journal of Politics<\/em>, and <em>Comparative Political Studies<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, he was awarded a VENI grant from NWO for the project <em>\u201cCredible or Capricious? His research&nbsp;focuses on&nbsp;comparative politics, political parties, populism, and political behavior. He earned his PhD from ETH Zurich in 2018. Prior to joining the University of Salzburg, Robert served as a lecturer in Comparative Politics at the University of Reading. Additionally, he holds the position of co-editor-in-chief at the European Journal of Political Research (until the end of 2024) and the Populism Seminar. Robert\u2019s primary research focus revolves around examining how globalisation poses new challenges to liberal democracy. He utilises state-of-the-art methods to investigate areas such as trade policy, climate and environmental politics, and populism.
